BAR ARTISANAL IS OPEN ..SPRING / 2009
"Bar Artisanal represents Chef-Proprietor Terrance Brennan’s first venture downtown. The TriBeCa bistro and bar is a dressed down version of the acclaimed Artisanal Fromagerie, Bistro & Wine Bar, and maintains the same commitment to the use of artisanal, sustainable and organic products. Bar Artisanal features inventive cocktails created to pair well with cheese; an accessible wine list; and sumptuous dishes that are priced $20 and under.
Black and white tile floors, wrought-iron latticework and swirling ceiling fans evoke the fun, festive ambience of a French bistro/bar. Designed by Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos, the spacious restaurant is enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling, multi-pane windows and the birdcage chandeliers that shimmer as the space transitions from day to night." The vast space and distinctive materials -- stone, steel, brass, mirrors -- reflects both the classic turn-of-the-century food market that inspires the restaurant's cuisine and TriBeCa's history as an industrial district dominated by warehouses, all infused with a sense of humor and animation. The space is divided into distinct areas for a variety of experiences. It's a mix of modern and traditional, sophisticated and dramatic while being warm and inviting. These include a relaxed, almost-decadent space around a brass bar with a back lit iron curtain as a backdrop. A large cheese counter offers diners a front-row view of the striking earth-stone hearth. And the main dining area illuminated by the glow of three grand and distinct, custom-made deconstructed chandeliers.
The design duo Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos specialize in custom designed environments that tell a rich story, with cutting-edge projects in the hospitality sector, from branding and interior design of The Park Lane Residence in Beijing and Manhattan's 24 Prince, to new hotel interiors in New York, Paris & Shanghai, currently under construction.
