An iconic destination restaurant opens in Januari in TriBeCa - Chef Michael Garrett Brings the Mediterranean Hearth to Manhattan.
NEW YORK, NY— Owners Shaul Natan and Jeremy Casilli announce the opening of TRIGO restaurant designed by Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos. A new Mediterranean restaurant playfully reminiscent of a timeless European food market, TRIGO restaurant opens this December in Manhattan's TriBeCa. Located at 6 York Street -- a sliver of a block just south of Canal Street and Sixth Avenue -- TRIGO will provide an infinite variety of options for dining, socializing and entertaining; open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The grand and airy 4,500-square feet space is designed by the interior-design duo Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos. Featuring unexpected contrasts in black and white, 20-foot floor-to-ceiling windows and elegant iron latticework covering the ceiling and monumental columns, TRIGO is theatrical in scale and details. The geometry of the latticework ceilings is reflected in the dramatic floors, playfully using different-sized tiles to create a visual game for the eyes. Moments of distortion and playfulness are carefully designed throughout the space, like its floor to ceiling mirrored walls in the dining room and bathrooms.
The vast space and distinctive materials -- stone, steel, brass, mirrors -- reflects both the classic turn-of-the-century food market that inspires the restaurant's cuisine and TriBeCa's history as an industrial district dominated by warehouses, all infused with a sense of humor and animation.
The space is divided into distinct areas for a variety of experiences. It's a mix of modern and traditional, sophisticated and dramatic while being warm and inviting. These include a relaxed, almost-decadent space around a brass bar with a back lit iron curtain as a backdrop. A large antipasti table offers diners a front-row view of the striking earth-stone hearth. And the main dining area illuminated by the glow of three grand and distinct, custom-made deconstructed chandeliers.
Executive chef Michael Garrett’s shared plates will be in harmony with both the seasons and the land, offering a wide range of Mediterranean-inspired dishes prepared with market-driven ingredients. An alumnus of Aquavit and Morrell’s, Garrett’s menu draws inspiration from coastal Mediterranean cuisines and focuses on dishes cooked in a hearth, located in the main dining room, and the use of high-quality seasonal ingredients. The menu is designed to share and is divided into several categories, including Farm Stand; Fish Market; Cheese Board; and Butcher Block.
The design duo Albert Angel & Elle Kunnos specialize in custom designed environments that tell a rich story, with cutting-edge projects in the hospitality sector, from branding and interior design of The Park Lane Residence in Beijing and Manhattan's 24 Prince, to new hotel interiors in New York, Paris & Shanghai, currently under construction.
